Why It's Important To Speak Out Against Bullying?

Today for Inquiry we were discussing how to stand up and to speak out to bullies. It is really important to stop someone bullying a child. If someone's bullying someone else you should tell the bully "cut it out you're just looking for attention" or you could say to the victim "let's go play somewhere else". Children should be using their WITS which is Walk Away, Ignore, Talk to an adult or teacher, Stand Up. Above is a short film that Fradion, Jay-Don and I did about bullying.

Why it's great to be me?

Screenshot 2017-08-29 at 2.25.32 PM.png
It's great to be me because I can do little achievements to reach my big goal.I think one of the things that I should do to reach my big goal is I should study hard and to never give up.Today I have found out more about me. One of them were our goals. My goal is to pass my NCEA test, go to University and become a qualified Pilot. After that we got into groups of 4 and made a word cloud about why it is great to be the age (11-13) we are now.

Poem - Two Day Wonder

Two Day Wonder

There is a clever contrast between the way the poet describes yesterday and today.  List all the words that give you a feeling of being sick, sad, depressed or bored. Yawned, Silent, Dragged, Sulked, Grumbled, Drooped, Still,

Now list all the words that describe feeling well, happy, bright and active from the second verse. Shine, Dances, Better, Swish, Gallops, Hurry, Flying, Clatter,

The lines from each verse matchup also.   List five of the opposite images.  This first one is done for you.
The street stretched silent, footpaths still. - Car swish, skateboards clatter.
1. The dog sulked in his basket. - The dog gallops round the house.
2.Clouds dragged, low and slow. - Clouds hurry, high and flying.
3.The world yawned and grumbled. - The world shines and dances.
4.The bike lay on the drive - My bike waits by the garage.
5. Washing dropped on the line. - Shirts, sheets, socks, stream in the breeze.

This is called juxtaposition.  Look this word up in the dictionary and copy the definition here.
  1. To put things that are not similar next to each other.

Today for Reading Ruru read a poem called Tow Day Wonder. It had two parts to the story which was talking about how the day was yesterday and today. After reading the story we had to list all the words that gives us feeling of being sick, sad, depressed or bored. There were six words in the story. One of the words was Sulked. After that we had to do the same but we had to do it to the second part of the story. The fun part was matching up the verses from both parts of the story. One example is The world yawned and grumbled which was from the first part of the story and - The world shines and dances which was in the second part of the story. They are similar because they talk about the world. At the end we had to look up the work juxtaposition on a dictionary. I learnt that juxtaposition means to put things that are not similar next to each other.

The digital media outcome will be an animated digital story in ‘Scratch’, relating to the context of Healthy Living in the Tamaki community.
The animated story must include the following:
  • Information on that informs readers about concepts relating to Healthy Living in the Tamaki community

My Animated Digital Story relates to the context of Healthy Living in the Tamaki Community because littering is unhealthy to the community and if it keeps on happening our home will be polluted.
My Animated Digital Story informs readers about concepts relating to Healthy Living in the Tamaki Community by telling them why it is important to stop littering.
My Animated Digital Story includes at least two sprites.  I did three sprites. These sprites are a soccer ball, a girl name Hannah and a Referee.

Key Into Inference - Map From Bedroom to Kitchen

This week for reading my group (Ruru) has been doing Key into inference. I read text 5 which was Kim. It was about a boy name Kim who came home in the night without anyone in his house. He looked around his house and didn't hear or see any of his family members. When he went to the kitchen he brought out a torch from the kitchen draw and shone onto the table. On table there was a letter which said ‘Have gone to the vet, we shouldn’t be too long’. After reading the text we were given questions to answer like what time of day was it? My answer was the time of day was night time because in the story it says he stood for a while, until his eyes were used to the dark. We had to use part of the question and part of the text to get our answer. At the end there was a activity we had to do. We had to Draw a map showing the directions from our bed to the kitchen for a drink of water if the power was out and we couldn’t see. The DLO above shows you my how to get from my bedroom to my kitchen in my house.

Senses - You've got 2 minutes

I see the basketball going swiftly up in the air like a nuclear bomb heading towards the big hoop of heaven. I smell the awful and revolting odour from sporty armpits as they travel past me. When I run past the office I smell the aroma of the coffee wafting through the air. I hear the enthusiastic cheers after a three pointer is scored. I feel  the strong breeze of the basketball as it aims for the hoop allowing me to taunt in victory. I taste the awesome little crumbs of burger I had for lunch but it is victory that leaves the best taste in my mouth.

L.I - To think about how I can work/phrase my ideas so that they are clear.

Today for writing we were using the senses which is See, Smell, Her, Feel, Taste to write about what happens at lunch times. We had only 2 minutes to write about what we See, Smell, Hear, Feel, Taste. It was easy to write in 2 minutes because in Writing we always practise writing in 1 minute. I think next time I could write more sentences.

Fraction Extraction

This week for maths we are learning to divide fractions. We were given a maths problem and we had to work out the answers. When we are dividing fraction we also have to multiply the fraction numbers. The method we use to multiply our fraction numbers was cross multiplication. Sylis and I have shown you our cross multiplication working out. I think using the cross multiplication method is easy to use.

CARE Award - Gold Respect Award - Stan Walker

Today I was focusing on my Gold Care Award. I did one of my Respect task. The task was to research Stan Walker's song Climb. In the DLO above I have told you some information about the song climb and facts about Stan Walker. I have listed Stan Walker's albums. My best album is Inventing myself. I think you should listen to the song.

Career - Aeroplane Pilot

This week we are focusing on Careers. We are searching about what we wanna be in the future. Last week we had to write the difference between Careers and Jobs. Careers is something you wanna be for the rest of your life and a job is when you do something to earn money to pay your bills. For example my Career is to be a pilot. I want to work in a pizza shop to earn money to pay my uniform for being a pilot. Working in a pizza shop is a job because it's not something I would want to work for during my whole life. This week we are choosing our career and writing about the job. The DLO above shows you some information about being a Aeroplane Pilot.

Flextangle

This week is maths week. In LS2 we have been making Flextangle and Hexaflexagon. My favourite part of making our Flextangle was colouring it. After colouring it we had to fold it and scoring the lines that was shown. After that we had to make into a Flextngle. The picture above shows you the Flextangle I have made. I think next time I could fold and score my lines more carefully.

Galloping Greyhounds

This week for maths we were given a maths problem. We needed to find common denimiators to work these fraction problems. Tiava and I work together to solve the problem. After solving the problem we had to pick one of the questions we were solving in the maths problem and blog it. The DLO above shows you how much money would a trainer make if the greyhound came first, second or third.

Rewindable Learning

Today for dance we were rewinding our dance that we did yesterday with Zoe ( dance teacher). We were each split into three groups and each had a song which was Stay'n Alive, I See Red, and Footloose. We each performed our dance we did yesterday to our classmates. We rewinded our dance evaluation and practised it again and again. I was in the Stay'n Alive group. We did well because we worked as team. We performed move by move. We got some good feedback from our teachers. I liked I See Red because they use most of their feet to dance. I think dance today was outstanding.

'A' or 'An'

Today we were learning when to use a and when to use an before a word. If a word begins with a vowel (a-e-i-o-u) or a silent h for example I want an apple for morning tea or I want an ukulele to play with. When we use a we use it for words beginning with all the other words except for the vowels. The DLO above shows you what we use 'an' or 'a' for. I have also included pictures.

Key into inference - Comic Strip

Today for reading my group (Ruru) did Key into inference. We had to correct our answers with all the text we have been reading this term. I was reading a text called On the bus. The story was about Wade who takes his pig on the bus and the bus driver does not allow the pig on the bus so Wade waits for another bus. When the bus arrives Wade carefully makes his way past the bus driver and went to the back of the bus. Wade tries to make his pig go asleep. Our task was to make 3 box comic strip showing what might happen if the pig woke up.

Families and Siblings

Siblings

My siblings are happy, enjoyable, and crazy. I love my siblings they are very awesome to be with. The only thing I don’t like is my brothers being so annoying to me. Brothers sometimes make you exhausted.

37 words in 1 minute

Sometimes we get into a big argue. My sister is just a normal person to me. She’s doesn’t get into to much trouble. What you don’t know about my sister is if I really annoy her and make her angry I will be dead already. I still love my siblings. I think my siblings are very precious even though they are so annoying and deranged.

64 words in 2 minute

Our challenge today was to write our ideas clearly so that they make sense. We had only 4 minutes to do this in, and 1 minute to check our writing. Our task was called 2 words... 1 minute'. We had to choose one of the words then power write for 1 minute, count our words carry on for 2 more minutes, count our words, then finish with 1 more minute. It was exciting writing powerful words to stories. It was difficult because we only had 1 minute to write.

Poem - Dad meets the Martians

Dad meets the Martians

Retell the story of the poem in two sentences. The dad meets the martians who came from Venus. The Martians and Dad both went on the martians saucer and the dad’s ford.

What could the storyteller not explain? The story couldn’t explain why the martians would want to drive Dad's ford.

List three of the interesting verbs from the poem. The three verbs from the poem I found interesting was addressed, pulled and imported.

List three of the contractions from the poem and then write them out in full. The three contractions from the poem I found was I’d - I would, He’ll - He will and It’s - It is.

Today for Reading we had to read a poem called the Dad meets the Martians. It was a really interesting poem. It was a bit funny. After reading the story we had to answer questions. First we had to retell the poem in two sentences. It was difficult because we usually retell stories in a lot of sentences. Soon there were questions. One of the questions we had to answer was list three of the contraction from the poem.

Winter Learning Journey - Assembly

During the holidays I participated in the Winter Learning Journey. It was a lot of enjoyment because we got explore more things about New Zealand. My best part about the Winter Learning Journey Activities was learning about the native animals in New Zealand. Students who participated was awarded certificates in assembly. There were a lot of people that took part of the Winter Learning Journey. There were students from year 5,6,7, and 8. Rachel told us there was over 5,000 blog post and blog commenting during the Winter Learning Journey. We couldn't believe it. The fun part was the prizes. The prizes went to 6 people who got the most blog posts and blog commenting. In first place was Daniel and Oh Hsen, second place was AJ and Alex and third place was Eric and I. Daniel and Ohsen (first prize winners) had over 500 blog comments. Thank you to Rachel for all the hard work she has put into the Winter Learning Journey.

Tech - Digital Tech

Today for tech we started on making our own animated story on  scatch. It took us a a long time to find our backdrops and sprites. Our animated story had to be based on Healthy Living in the Tamaki Community. First we had to read the project insturction on how to create our animated story. We reflected back to our Abbey and Devin animated story to get an example. My animated story is on picking up rubbish. I have learnt that we had to include a minimum of three pages.

Writing - Lunchtimes At PBS

Let me tell you something about lunchtimes at PBS. First we all wait until the 12:30 bell rings. When we hear the bell we are told to go and eat our lunch. Some of us eat very rapidly like we haven’t eaten in days so they can run and play their favorite lunch game, handball. As soon as we have gulped all of the food into our mouths we run to the handball grid as fast as a cheetah. We hear a lot of yelling and shouting. Some of us are angry for losing, and some of us are feeling satisfied from winning. All the juniors are all rumbling through the playground like a group of buffaloes. Fans of basketball are just shooting the ball into the hoop every second. Teachers in the staff room are drinking their coffee and relaxing away from all the noise they have been listening in their class rooms. Inter school rugby boys are all around the field running and kicking the big, curved ball. Boys are just running and hitting shoulder to shoulder and practising their drills. Some boys are in really bad pain, but still laughing in delight waiting for revenge.

L.I - To think about how I can word/phrase my ideas so that they are clear.

Today for Writing we had to write a story describing lunchtimes at PBS. We had four minutes to write which was a bit difficult. After our four minute of writing we had to read it to ourselves and share it to our partner. While writing my story I have practised proofreading my story with myself and with my partner. I have also practised adding more powerful words to make my story is more realistic and interesting. The fun part about today was checking each other's work and looking for mistakes. I think next time for writing I can try and use more words and language features to hook in my readers.

Maths Problem - It Pays To Win

Today for maths Mrs Kirkpatrick gave us a maths problem to solve. Sylis and I solved question one, two and three. Soon we had to make a DLO only on question three. Doing this maths problem we had to use our timetables knowledge and our addition and multiplication knowledge to solve the maths problem. It was a bit difficult to solve it out because we had to add and multiply big numbers. I had a very awesome time solving our this maths problem.
